Create-a-Moat Process

Moat Creation will go live shortly after the launch of v3 on moats.app

Permissionless Creation

Users, projects, and founders now have the ability to create a Moat for their token. Users only need to supply the contract address of the token they are creating the Moat for to begin. Users must also pay a small fee of 250 USDC for creating the Moat at the time of deployment.

Admins (Moat deployers) have the ability to add additional admins to help manage their Moat once created. Additionally, once the contract is deployed, admins will have the ability to enable or disbale specific modules like staking, locking, EELs, and burning. Admins can then also add reward tokens, edit descriptions and configure NFT Boosts, if desired.

Important Warnings and Disclaimers for Deployment

We do not recommend using tokens like WBTC, USDC, USDT, or other tokens with irregular decimals. Tokens with 6 decimals or fewer may not be compatible with the Moats and may result in the loss of funds.

These tokens may still be added as reward tokens for Moats, but should not be used as the staking/locking/burning token. There is absolutely no issues rewarding Moats with USDC, USDT or WBTC.

Once a reward token is added to a moat by an admin, it cannot be removed. we recommend only adding tokens that will have repeated distribution within your Moat. If it is a one time or less frequent distribution, admins may consider taking a snapshot of their Moats using our admin tooling and airdropping their rewards to holders.

Burned Token Data Upload

Admins have the ability to upload custom burn token data. Burned token data can be uploaded at the time of creation from the admin panel. We highly recommend disable burning after deployment if you plan on migrating burn data, not properly disabling burning may lead to issues with migrating your burn token data.

Any and all uploads are made visible in the 'Log' portion of the Moats.app UI.

Permissionless Closure

Admins have the ability to close a Moat at any time. Closure of a moat is made secure for all users. When an admin decides to close a moat, the action is final and cannot be reversed.

When a moat is closed, Emergency Withdraw Mode is enabled, which allows users to unstake and unlock all tokens in the moat with no fees. Emergency Withdraw Mode also helps collect any outstanding rewards for the user.

Closed moats are moved to the 'Depreciated' tab on the Moats.app UI but remain accessible for users to view and access.
