Overview
Moats App is hosting its first Extensions Hackathon, a web2 and web3 builder event focused on expanding the Moats ecosystem through practical applications and tools.
This hackathon invites developers, designers, and product builders to create an application or lightweight tool on top of the Moats App using our API, smart contracts, or ecosystem assets. Participants may build full web3 experiences or purely web2 applications that leverage Moats data infrastructure.
Custom smart contract deployment is not required for this event. While advanced onchain development is welcome, participants are not expected to build bespoke contracts. Clean, well executed web2 applications that integrate with the Moats API are fully acceptable and strongly encouraged.
The goal is to encourage practical innovation, experimentation, and ecosystem growth.
What You Can Build
Participants are encouraged to build tools that extend the usability and visibility of the Moats ecosystem.

If your project meaningfully interacts with Moats data, contracts, or user workflows, it qualifies.
Technical Scope
The Extensions Hackathon is intentionally flexible. Your project must meaningfully use Moats infrastructure, but complexity is not required.
You may build using the Moats App API, public Moats smart contracts, reward and snapshot data, or other ecosystem assets. Integration with at least one of these components is required.
Custom smart contract deployment is not required. Web2 applications that consume the API and present Moats data in a useful way are fully acceptable. Dashboards, analytics tools, reward trackers, community utilities, and lightweight extensions are all valid submissions.
For teams that prefer deeper web3 integration, direct contract interaction and wallet connected interfaces are welcome, but additional complexity will not automatically score higher.
Judging will prioritize clear integration with Moats, a working product or demo, clean execution, and real usefulness to the ecosystem. Keep it simple and build something that adds value.

All submissions must be completed by the end of day on April 10. Community Voting closes on the Extensions Hackathon Portal on April 17. Judges will review entries and announce winners on April 20.

Community Voting
In addition to the judging panel, the Moats community will participate in the evaluation process through the Moat Council. Community members can review all hackathon submissions and cast their votes through the official portal at https://hackathon.moats.app, where projects, demos, and current rankings are displayed. This system allows the broader ecosystem to highlight the projects that provide the most value, creativity, and utility for Moats users.
Voting power is determined by a user’s Moat Council Score, which aggregates Moat Points across the ecosystem and applies a diversity multiplier:
Council Score = Total Points × Multiplier
Total Points represent the sum of a user’s Moat Points, while the Multiplier rewards participation across multiple Moats. The diversity bonus is applied as follows: 1 Moat = 1.0×, 2 Moats = 1.1×, 3 Moats = 1.25×, 4+ Moats = 1.5×. This structure encourages broader ecosystem participation while helping balance voting influence.
Voting is fully dynamic throughout the hackathon. Users may update, change, or reassign their votes directly through the portal as new projects are submitted or demos evolve. There is no limit to how many times a user may modify their vote. Community voting will remain open until April 5, when final Moat Council scores will be recorded and included alongside the judges’ evaluations.
Purpose
The Extensions Hackathon is designed to expand the surface area of the Moats ecosystem by encouraging builders to create complementary tools and applications.
Moats App provides composable reward infrastructure that bridges web2 usability with web3 primitives. Extensions help strengthen community engagement, improve visibility of onchain activity, and unlock new workflows for users.
Builders are encouraged to focus on clarity, usability, and meaningful integration.
